Hub of Talents: Sustainable Materials for Circular Economy (HubSustainMat) and Center of Excellence on Petrochemical and Materials Technology (PETROMAT) co-organized the seminar “End-of-Waste Innovation Showcase: Transforming Industrial Waste into Future Resources,” led by the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) in collaboration with government agencies, research institutes, and environmental networks across Thailand. The event was co-chaired by Dr. Julapong Taweesri, Advisor to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, and Assoc. Prof. Termsak Srikirin, Executive Director of MTEC, on August 13, 2026, at Siam Room, Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, Bangkok. As the second meeting in Thailand’s End-of-Waste discussion, the event highlighted how cross-sector collaboration and innovation can help transform industrial waste from a disposal challenge into valuable resources. The seminar explored pathways to advance sustainable manufacturing, circular economy practices, and the transition toward net-zero emissions, while featuring one-on-one researcher–industry matching to identify opportunities for collaboration and technology development. A key highlight was the session “From Lab to Line: Innovation Highlight Pitching,” where Prof. Hathaikarn Manuspiya presented “Cello-gum: High-value Additives — from Food Waste to Food & Pharma.” The innovation demonstrates how low-value bioresources and by-products can be upcycled into high-value ingredients with potential applications in Thailand’s food and pharmaceutical industries. HubSustainMat and PETROMAT also showcased innovations from The Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University, demonstrating the potential of waste-derived materials. “NetCycle3D,” developed by Asst. Prof. Nuttapol Risangud, reengineers discarded fishing nets into sustainable materials for 3D printing, while “ChocoCarbon,” developed by Asst. Prof. Bhumin Than-Ardna, upcycles cocoa shell waste into activated carbon for use in CO₂-absorbing concrete. Together, these innovations demonstrate how research and technology can help turn waste into new resources, products, and value—moving Thailand closer to an End-of-Waste future.
